Infrastructure solution opportunities

Solutions shaped by your business requirements.

Start with DilOS core technologies. Add purpose-built software, infrastructure services and integrations to create sovereign-ready, customer-specific solutions.

Built on DilOS

What could you build?

Each scenario distinguishes built-in technology primitives from additional components that would need to be engineered or integrated.

DilOS foundation
Open-source system architecture, local hosting, configurable networking, isolated workloads and package management.

Customer-specific extensions
Access controls, security audits, approved software repositories, logging, encryption integrations and compliance evidence collection.

Business outcome
Better control over infrastructure location, vendors, updates and sensitive workloads.

05

Custom Infrastructure Appliances

Create differentiated infrastructure products using a common operating system foundation.

DilOS foundation
Core OS, networking, storage stack and software package integration.

Customer-specific extensions
Hardware drivers, custom protocols, application modules, product UI, administrative APIs and dedicated installation images.

Business outcome
A purpose-built platform aligned with specific hardware, workloads and commercial requirements.

06

Specialized Application Infrastructure

Develop integrated infrastructure environments for databases, application hosting or research workloads.

DilOS foundation
Zones, virtual machines, storage tuning, service management and Debian-oriented packaging.

Customer-specific extensions
Application ports, orchestration, observability, configuration tooling, APIs and tested deployment profiles.

Business outcome
An integrated software and infrastructure stack designed for one organization's operational requirements.

These are illustrative engineering opportunities, not claims that every solution is currently available as a certified, turnkey product. Hardware compatibility, security and operational requirements must be validated for each deployment.
ZFS storage & cloud infrastructure

OpenZFS storage solutions, virtualization and private cloud

Use DilOS as an open-source foundation for storage and sovereign private cloud projects. Tailor NFS file services, ZFS datasets, snapshots, replication and block storage to the customer architecture. S3-compatible object storage is a possible additional integration, not a native DilOS or OpenZFS capability.

Platform differentiation

Why build on DilOS?

Linux, FreeBSD and other illumos distributions are established open-source platforms. DilOS takes a different approach: combining the illumos foundation and OpenZFS with a Debian-oriented userland and APT/DPKG workflows, ready to be extended for specific business solutions.

This comparison describes technology choices, not benchmark results or universal superiority. DilOS shares many core capabilities with FreeBSD and other illumos systems. Security, reliability, hardware support, package availability and operational maturity must be validated against the target release and workload.
Linux service migration

Bring selected Debian & Ubuntu services to an illumos-based foundation.

DilOS uses a Debian-oriented userland and APT/DPKG package management. This can make familiar administration and package-porting workflows a starting point for moving selected services from Debian and Ubuntu Linux to a DilOS-based infrastructure solution.

↗

Migration opportunities

Assess suitable web services, application runtimes, databases, network services and background jobs for source-based porting, package adaptation and configuration migration.

Retain familiar Debian packaging concepts while gaining access to an illumos / OpenZFS infrastructure architecture built around your requirements.

✓

A validated, staged transition

Audit dependencies and Linux-specific interfaces; port or replace packages; migrate configuration and data; test service behavior; and validate recovery, performance and operational controls before cutover.

Where software requires a Linux kernel or unsupported dependencies, retain it on Linux or assess an appropriately supported virtual machine.

A potential path to resilient infrastructure — not automatic Linux compatibility

OpenZFS integrity checks, snapshots, replication and boot environments can support dependable operations when properly configured. A Debian-derived userland does not make DilOS a Linux kernel, guarantee compatibility with existing Ubuntu/Debian binaries or establish that it is categorically more reliable than Linux. Each migration needs technical assessment, porting and testing.

Delivery philosophy

Keep the foundation open. Tailor the solution.

Start by identifying requirements and reusing applicable DilOS capabilities. Engineer additional components only where the customer solution needs them.

1

Discover & define

Understand workloads, infrastructure constraints, data security needs and acceptance criteria.

2

Extend & integrate

Port software, build modules, integrate management tools and validate the target architecture.

3

Deploy & evolve

Document releases, establish maintenance and support arrangements, and evolve with future requirements.
